The Local

Hailing from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, The Local are a powerful indie rock band whose combination of throwback punk influences, infused with sweeping atmospheric arrangements resemble something the band's producer Brian McTear (War on Drugs, Strand of Oaks, matt pond PA, Local Natives) describes as My Bloody Valentine meets Spoon meets Ennio Morricone.

The Local was formed after Dean Henry, from Belfast, Northern Ireland, met Jenny Reilly, a Pittsburgh native while she was visiting the Country. The two were married and moved to Pittsburgh, where Henry met Ben Sweet. Sweet, also a Pittsburgh native, became determined to teach himself guitar following a recent Type I diabetes diagnosis.

Henry and Sweet discovered their mutual affection for bands such as The Jam, The Clash, The Replacements and The Pixies. Sweet encouraged Henry to begin writing their own songs. Henry merged his Irish punk rock influences with Sweet’s folk melodies and introspective lyrics and The Local was born. The two began writing the songs which form the nucleus of their debut EP Reverie which was recorded with McTear at Miner Street Studio in Philadelphia, and features Jenny Henry on bass guitar and friend Pat Berkery (The War on Drugs, Clap Your Hands Say Yeah!) on drums.

Since completing the record, the band has added keyboardist Eric Matlock (Jellybread) and percussionist/multi-instrumentalist Clay Hoover. The Local brings a powerful yet understated sensibility to the stage on diverse tracks such as "Racing," "Impatience Blues," "Reverie" and "Fair Play: and has earned a reputation as a compelling live act.
